With plenty of in-house projects and special builds, EVS has amassed a number of new and used high performance parts over the years to the point where their 12,000 square foot facility was quickly filling up. Rather than throwing away all the spare parts, the team decided to liquidate many of the parts and throw the company’s first annual garage sale. Word of mouth spread quickly and onto the Internet that EVS was offering specialized and high-performance automotive parts, memorabilia, and even complete long block engines to their customers at bargain prices.

Top 5 Tips on Maximizing Your Garage Sale Experience

  1. Put a checklist together and mark off exactly what parts you need or want to get prior to attending a garage sale.

  1. Resist temptation: With so many parts offered for cheap, many will impulse buy parts they don’t necessarily want or need. Try to keep your purchases to a minimum.

  1. If the prices are too good to be true, they often are. From whom and where you purchase the item from can determine if they are genuine or fake. The best plan is to recognize a fake versus a genuine part before stepping foot into any store or garage sale. If it’s an electronics item, be sure to ask to test out the item before purchasing and check if it is backed by a warranty.

  1. Know the condition of the item before purchasing. Carefully inspect the items to ensure you’re getting exactly what you’re paying for. Most garage sale items are slightly damaged or have cosmetic flaws which shouldn’t scare you off. A legitimate seller will note if there are any issues with the parts for sale. If the damage is beyond repair, we recommend you keep clear of purchasing them.

  1. The most overlooked of all: Use common sense when bargaining. Most, if not all items have been marked down in price considerably. Coming into any sale as a penny pincher will get you kicked out quicker than a transient stealing silverware from a White House banquet. Keep in mind most shops want to unload their parts. The more parts sold, the less time it will take for the unsold items to be reloaded back into the garage. Now is the time to use your haggling skills to barter, but don’t lowball on the part to a point where you offend the seller or shop. Common sense should tell you, a Toda titanium exhaust system and header won’t be going home with you for $50 dollars!

Before EVS could officially open their gates to the public at 11am, the lines at the entrance had already begun to expand, eventually wrapping around the entire building. Once they were admitted inside, the patiently awaiting customers wasted no time in grabbing wheels and tires which were the first to sell out.

Evasive is one of the largest Rays wheels distributors on the West Coast so it wasn’t surprising to see a flood of brand new wheels for sale at the event. Among the surplus of Volk Racing wheels were also a mixture of Enkei Wheels, Buddy Club Racing, and Work Wheels also being blown out.

Smoking deals? It all comes down to knowing exactly what you’re looking for and finding those killer bargains. It’s a fair bet to say these Mugen short shifters were quickly snatched off the racks for the low price of $100 although they were for right-hand-drive Civics. These same shifters retail for $265 on the King Motorsports website. Who doesn’t appreciate 60 percent off?

When the EVS crew aren’t wrenching on customer cars, they can be found testing their cars on the track. Road racers and weekend track warriors know a thing or two about tire consumption when running on the track.

“Our spare tire situation has gotten out of control, to a point where we built large Costco-type metal racks lining the walls to keep them from piling up” said Mike Chang, co-owner of Evasive Motorsports.

EVS offered a variety of tires ranging in brands and sizes. Everything from brand new race slicks, to slightly used Toyo R888 tires, and even rally tires were available.

Here’s a chance to own a piece of history. In past years, EVS offered their assistance to Kontrabrands to develop and maintain the 2013 Rally America National Championship Scion xD, which competed in the two-wheel-drive class. Piloted by Andrew Comrie-Picard, the team finished 2nd in the two-wheel-drive championship in both 2012 and 2013 seasons. All that remained of the vehicle was a front radiator core support along with its radiator; Greddy oil cooler, and front mount intercooler. It was a bittersweet reminder of the demise of not only the rally program but also the Scion brand itself.

This FA20 long block powered the Mackin 86 PPHIC racecar up the mountain in 2015. The FA20 was pulled from the car following the event and was eventually replaced by a 2JZ-GTE power plant for the following year. Although the FA20 engine suffered some internal damage, it serves as a good core replacement for any FRS/86/ BRZ owner interested in a spare engine. Boxer owners know spare engines are always a good thing.

On display next to the EVS R35-chassis was a customized Lexus LC500. This yellow machine was part of a build project involving Lexus and Gordon Ting of Beyond Marketing. The LC500’s aggressive stance was achieved using a KW Suspensions Hydraulic Cup Kit coilover system, which rests behind 22-inch HRE wheels. The interior was also improved with custom bucket seats and a roll bar.

One vehicle that caught our immediate attention was this gold AE86 owned by Allen Lugue. The car was nostalgic to me because I wrote a feature on this car back in 2005 when I worked for Import Tuner magazine. Besides the wheels and a few minor changes, the car has remained the same.
